John Verrier, president of Avril Homes Ltd., (operating as Verrier Construction until 1993), has been working in the residential and commercial construction industry in western Canada since 1978, and on Vancouver Island since 1988. He has been engaged as a contractor, supervisor and/or general contractor on numerous commercial and residential projects. John Verrier started operations in the construction management industry in 2001. Early in 2004 Avril Homes Ltd. was contracted as construction manager on several high profile and award winning projects. While still operating as a general contractor, focus was given to management and development of multi-unit residential and mixed use projects. Avril Homes has continually built custom and speculative single family homes throughout the years, however, Avril Home’s priority has been the multi-unit residential and commercial construction projects.Avril Homes Ltd was both the construction manager and builder for three commercial/residential projects in Comox worth in excess of fourteen million dollars ($14,000,000). Comox Quay I, an 18,000 square foot mixed use 3 story building was completed in May of 2005. The award winning Comox Quay II, a similar sized building was completed in May 2006. These nautical theme buildings are located in the heart of downtown Comox. Because of their unique design and character they are often the backdrop for tourist and community photographs. The Portside, also an award winning project is a 36,000 square foot mixed use building, which is also the home of the Comox Library and 12 luxurious ocean view condominiums, was completed in July of 2008. In addition to this, Avril Homes was the project manager and builder of the Somerset Lane project. Comprised of twenty six (26) high quality patio homes ,the development is located in the prestigious Crown Isle golf course community. This project was started in April of 2005 and completed and sold out by May of 2007. Avril involvement from concept to completion on these projects has resulted in a wealth of experience and knowledge in most aspects of construction and development.
Avril Homes Ltd. was involved in the Mandira by the Sea project as construction manager and design consultant. This unique mixed use project, located on the waterfront near the Comox Bay Marina, has been redesigned by its new owners and will be underway for construction in 2012. Avril Homes Ltd. is presently working on a 37 unit townhouse and condominium project as project manager and builder on Muir Road in Courtenay. Named the Ridge View, this 2.4 acre site is under construction with the first phase of homes completed. Construction on the next phase is expected early in 2012. Avril Homes has also been involved as construction manager and consultant on the Horizon at Aspen Village in Comox. With the innovative and aesthetically pleasing design, this mixed use building complex is the first of three phases on a five acre site. The first phase includes a 65 unit condominium building which also houses over 20,000 sq.ft. of vibrant commercial space, and boasts exceptional mountain and glacier views in the Comox Valley. Avril was also involved as construction manager and consultant on the impressive Views at Cedar Ridge in Nanaimo. This spectacular 9 acre building site boasts incredible lake and mountain views amidst the well treed and rocky slopes of the terrain. The first phase consists of a premier 87 unit condominium designed by renowned architect Derek Crawford of Salt Spring Island. These two projects are being restructured to accommodate ownership changes and are expected to start back up in 2012. John Verrier has gained considerable knowledge and experience in over thirty years of working in the construction and development industry.
